THE OUTSTANDING WOMAN OF THE YEAR

The LOLA M. PARKER ACHIEVEMENT AWARD  is synonymous with the name of the Sorority’s founder, is the highest award given by the Sorority and presented to a woman selected because of her total involvement in, and commitment to community service. A nonpartisan committee of judges, via documentation epitomizing the aims and ideals of Iota, recommends her. She is awarded the “Outstanding Woman of the Year Award” at the National Convention.

National Soror of the Year

The MAHALA S. EVANS AWARD is the “Soror of the Year
Award,” given by the Sorority to a Soror who has contributed
most to the Sorority during the previous two years by virtue of
(1) involvement in local, regional, and national programs and
projects of the Sorority and (2) involvement in community
activities. She is awarded the “National Outstanding Soror of
the Year Award” at the National Convention.

The Immediate Past National Soror of the Year is Wendy B. Jacques, an Epsilon Tau Charter Member and its first President. Wendy served for the 2017-2019 sorority years.

YOUTH PROJECTS

TUTORIAL PROGRAM -The Sorority desires to motivate youth, especially in urban or disadvantaged areas, who are lacking basic skills needed in quality education. Thus the sorority conducts, among its chapters throughout the country, tutorial programs designed to assist the educational system in remediating youths’ academic weaknesses, tapping their strengths and unshackling their potential toward the attainment of “Excellence Without Compromise.”

CAREER EXPLORATION-The Sorority also provides activities to broaden youths’ awareness of the widening horizons of the world of work.

TOYS “U” CAN’T RETURN is a signature project to help local communities learn more about teenage pregnancy and unplanned pregnancies by developing effective
action agendas for preventing children from having children.
